Hi friend,
I’m Daniel Catena and I have an important question to ask you:
Do you have itchy feet?
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, getting itchy feet means “starting to want to travel or do something different.”
So, does this sound like you?
Here are a couple of follow-up questions:
• Do you constantly daydream of your next vacation?
• Is saving up for a trip more important to you than saving up for a new car?
• Do you spend more on airfare than anything else?
If you said yes to at least one of these questions, then you’ve come to the right place!
Welcome to Itchy Feet, a travel-inspired newsletter.
Together we will take a three to seven-minute voyage each week.
A little about me:
• I have a serious case of itchy feet and my only cure (besides traveling) is to write about traveling.
• I’ve been a travel addict since I was 22 years old (almost 15 years!).
• I’ve been to over 30 countries and lived in three. I want to share my passion for discovery with you.
Welcome to Itchy Feet
Well friend, thank you for checking out this newsletter. Each edition will have a similar structure. We’ve just concluded the first part, which is where I’ll introduce a main idea that relates to travel. Here’s what is on deck:
⚓️ Travel Quote of the Week
“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”
― St. Augustine
🧐 Did you know?
Panama uses USD as its currency. In fact, it was the first Latin American nation to do so. They adopted American currency in 1904 after gaining independence from Colombia in 1903. Another fun fact: Panama became part of the Republic of Colombia in 1831.
⛩ Culture Corner
Morocco is a country filled with diverse traditions. The country’s cultural roots stem from the Berbers, Arabs, Hebrews, Phoenicians, Romans, and Sub-Saharans. Gnawa Music, for instance, showcases complex melodies and rhythms. This music genre is from Morocco and can easily transport you on a musical journey. It features the sintir (guembri) guitar, drums, and castanet-like karkabas.
🏙 City Showcase
Luang Prabang. This is one of Loas’ top traveler destinations. According to Frommers, you can take a bus from the capital, Vientiane, or fly into Luang Prabang International Airport. However, the most scenic way to get there is by boat via the Mekong River. Attractions include the Luang Prabang Night Market, stunning Tat Sae Waterfalls, and the sacred Phousi Hill Buddhist Temple.
