I am using mainly collectivos in Peru, I think they are more practical than busses, but also it depends where you have to go.

Yes colectivos are also an excellent way to get around. They are an a adventure in their own right. Your trip in Peru looks like a lot of fun so far.

The definition of "bus" in South America is so broad! Traveling around South/Central America by Minibus, Microbus, Colectivos, Public Bus and long distance buses were unforgettable experiences.
