🛄 Your Itchy Feet April 2025 Layover Read!
Plus: Some excellent reads from fellow Substack writers!
What do you do when you’re at an airport or ferry terminal and having nothing to do?
For me, the first instinct is whip out my phone.
My go-to’s include checking on my favorite sports teams, news headlines, or scrolling on social media.
The effects this has on my mindset is a mixed bag, especially when my teams are losing or there’s bad news (almost always).
However, this past month I’ve tried to create a better habit:
I want my default reading habit to become:
“Let’s see what’s happening on Substack.” 🌟
I often forget how many amazing writers are on this platform.
Unlike other corners of the internet, I never regret reading Substack.
The purpose of this post is simple:
Rather than doom scroll, here’s an inspiration scroll.
Here’s a recap my Itchy Feet articles from April 2025. Also, my goal here is to highlight some interesting reads from fellow Substack writers that expanded my worldview and simply inspired me.
Welcome to the Itchy Feet April 2025 Layover Read.
I hope you enjoy!

• Part 1 of a fun interview with my wife Yesi about her experience working in the US as a camp counselor and au pair. She also shares unique differences between Colombian and US culture.
• Part 2 of my interview with Yesi. She talks about surviving a long-distance relationship, multicultural marriage, and how to create a healthy partnership.
• Inspiration Postcard #10: A look at different cultural dances from around the world, where you can see them performed, and places you can actually learn them!
• Do you ever panic when someone comes to visit you? This post has proven ways to show your friend a great time without over-thinking.
Excellent Substacks I enjoyed this past month!
There are tons of amazing writers on Substack. Here are a few I wanted to highlight because these pieces made me think a lot.
•
- Borderline Belize- A misadventure crossing the border between Mexico and Belize. A suspenseful read! Jeanine is one of my favorite story-tellers on Substack.
•
- The Best Souvenir You Can Give Your Kids is Time Together- The title speaks for itself: Time is the best gift. Also, there are some useful trip ideas for families here. I’m hoping to be a dad one day, so this piece inspired me.
•
- Uplifting Takeaways from 6 Years of Nomad Life- This piece is loaded with excellent travel advice and wisdom. A lot resonated with me, so I wanted to share it.
•
- My Silent Tribute to Studio Ghibli- As a Studio Ghibli fan, I thoroughly enjoyed Madhumitha’s views here. She also ignited me interest in checking out the complete film catalog.
•
- The Most Self-Sufficient Human Was Never Absolutely Alone- Cory shares the fantastic life story of one of history’s lesser-known radical adventurers. Dick Proenneke forged a new life in the Alaskan wilderness and found community in unlikely places.
Ok my friend,
That’s it for this week. Another Itchy Feet is cooking in the oven right now. You now have a lot to read on your next layover!
